27 May 2005 (a view of how capitalism is rotting socialism from the inside out)

The party was pretty fun. It was at a bar/nightclub in the center of campus.
We played foosball and drank a couple of beers, before going to McDonalds
because Viki and Adi were hungry. They really love McDonalds! Its kind of
amazing. We walked back from McDonalds - a couple of kilometers, as we
missed our bus. Vikis feet were killing her. We met up with Adis old
friend from high school - Spot. I remember when he and Adi were in a band
together, recording their songs in Krisztians bedroom. The amazing thing
is, they actually sounded pretty damn good. Spot is now an engineer of
computer circuit boards at a firm in Miskolc. He programs them and is
basically a brilliant sort of guy, according to Adi. Adi is humble, though.
I doubt anyone is smarter than he is at this shit.
We came home. Viki went straight to bed, as she was really tired. Adi and I
stayed up talking about the family, married life, differences in the sexes,
work at an American factory, and everything else in the kitchen until four
in the morning! It was great to finally have a chance to just sit and talk
without any interruptions.
Today I woke up at around one oclock. I went to the store with Adi and we
bought a bunch of cheese and deep fried it. We ate it with rice and
mushrooms. Delicious. Then it was to the garden, as Apa was home. We all sat
in the garden like the old days - anya did all the work, the rest of us sat
and chatted. The garden is starting to look really nice. I cant believe how
big the cherry tree has gotten. One of the peach trees is dying, though,
unfortunately. (Tangent: a train is going by in the distance. It sounds like
a fan.)
Krisztian drove his motorcycle home from Budapest today. It was over 90
degrees; so he was damn sweaty. Basically hung out with the family in the
garden after that. Started a fire to melt animal fat over but then no one
wanted animal fat; so we called it off and just let the fire burn. Birgit
called. I was glad as hell. I miss her at times. It was great chatting with
her as it has been several days with absolutely no contact and much has been
happening here and there. We have to get up at six-thirty in the morning
tomorrow. Apa, Anya, Krisztian, Adi, and I are all heading to Budapest to
work on Krisztian and Noris new flat. Were going to strip off the old
wallpaper, put some new stuff up and paint quite a bit. Perhaps stain the
wood floors too; though, all of this work will probably take more than a
week for Krisztian and Nori to do.
Im excited to help. Krisztian has helped me tremendously in finding a place
to stay, etc., and I have always enjoyed working with the Gavel Family on
things like this. (I helped them lay the bricks in their driveway and used
to help in the garden pretty regularly.) The only major difference is that
Noris parents will be there too. This should be interesting watching
future in-laws work together!
Well, it is almost 12:30 and time for bed for me. The last blog entry
written in Nyekladhaza for a while - maybe the rest of the summer, as I
doubt I will tote my computer here every weekend.
